South Africa and Pakistan remain in Newlands, where they are set to do battle in the first of three T20 Internationals.
South Africa vs Pakistan 1st T20i: Overview
After a tightly-fought One Day International series, South Africa and Pakistan move on to the high-paced action of the shortest format as they square off in the first of three T20 Internationals at Newlands on Friday night.
The Proteas prevailed in the 50-over version, winning the last match on the same venue to take the series 3-2, just after completing a whitewash over the tourists in the longest format earlier this month.
They will be looking for a clean sweep, and continue with their fine-tuning ahead of both the 50-over and T20 World Cups.
However, it will be far from easy against a side ranked first in T20 Internationals, who will be encouraged by their improved showing in the series that’s just gone by, as they pushed the hosts down to the wire before coming unstuck in the decider.
Pakistan have been near unstoppable since the last T20 World Cup, winning 29 of their 33 matches played since, and are up against a Proteas side far less settled in the format, with a squad littered with inexperience at this level.
Keen eyes will be on the uncapped Lutho Siphamla, who is in line for a debut at Newlands, having impressed in the inaugural Mzansi Super League T20.
The 20-year-old quick comes into the squad alongside Warriors and Tshwane Spartans teammate, Gihahn Cloete, who made his international debut against Zimbabwe last year, as well as all-rounder, Chris Morris, who was not part of both the Test and ODI series leading up to the T20s.
