17:20 Local Time | 11:50 IST: So grey skies, a flat deck, and of course Australia’s famed bouncy tracks, but trust a leggie to defy all sorts of conventional wisdom. Yuzvendra Chahal, hidden under the pretext of being dropped, turned into the blow from the unknown for the poor hapless Aussies, who after having worked their way around Kuldeep, couldn’t transfer their skills into something similar that came out of the opposite hand. But Chahal wasn’t inhibited in using his variations today, breaking the back of the middle order with his quicker sliders. It’s helped him become only the second spinner after Imran Tahir to pick up a fifer in both Australia and South Africa. But before we get carried away, we’re only into half time. Australia might have underwhelmed, but they have a proud history to guard, and they better be up for the defence, quickly; in say 30 minutes.
